The Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore lies along the south shore of Lake Superior near Munising, Michigan. The "rocks" are limestone cliffs, several hundred feet high in places that have been colored by minerals in the groundwater. In the morning and evening light, the rocks take on a breathtaking warm glow. Lake Superior, the largest and wildest of the Great Lakes, adds its own element of primal beauty to the lakeshore.
